The Museum is located on the Starokievska (Old Kiev) hill where the remains of the Desiatynna (Tithe) Church and other constructions dating from the 10th to the 13th centuries have survived to the present day. The collection of the Museum amounts to more than 600,000 original exhibits - the archaeological monuments of the primeval society, the Trypillia culture, the Scythians, early Slavs, from the Old Rus and the Cossacks times to modern ones of the 20th c. Among the new museum acquisitions are the first documents of new independent Ukraine and specimen of state decorations of the independent Ukraine. The building itself is an architectural monument of the late 19th century, it was constructed by famous Kiev architect V.Horodetsky. The present display occupies 18 rooms. The collection totals 20,000 works of art. The museum is divided into areas representing different regions of Ukraine, recreating authentic village atmosphere: clay huts roofed with grass or wooden shingles, archaic barns and wells - everything is meant to bring you back to Ukraine of 16th to 19th century. At Pyrohovo you will find wooden churches, windmills, and even a school building typical of rural areas from recent centuries. Different kinds of structures: water-mills, cattle-sheds and granary, threshing floors and 'stodota' for storing cereals, apiaries and hen houses, cellars and wells. All this will tell you how Ukrainians lived in Ukraine centuries ago. Most of the buildings are original and were moved here piece by piece from villages all over Ukraine. There are represented different regions of Ukraine and you will have the opportunity to notice how different they were. It's very interesting to compare the churches and the bell towers, they are silent witnesses of the spiritual growth of Ukraine, its customs and traditions. The exposition of village cottages or huts (khatas in Ukrainian) here is unique for their age (1587 to 1687). Every item is displayed in its natural environment and you could even see them in operation, as museum employs people to play different roles of the ancient village life. Ukrainian Museum of Historical Treasures 25 Mazepy Str. 10:00 – 17:00 exc Mon The Museum Of Historical TreasuresThe Museum of Historical Treasures possesses one of the richest systematised collection of the jewellery manufacturing history during about three millennia. The collection includes the chefs d'oeuvre of the world value, such as a Scythian pectoral from the Tovsta Mohyla kurhan (grave-hill) dating from the 4th century B.C., a silver vase from the Haimanova Mohyla, dating from the second half of the 4th century B.C. It reveals the aesthetic ideals and mentality of the tribes and peoples who lived in this land. The collections of the 16th-20th centuries Ukrainian jewellery are most interesting. One of the most fascinating possessions of the Museum is a collection of the Judaic ritual silver objects (18th-20th centuries). A separate department represents the contemporary jewellery. The icon paintings have deep roots in Ukraine. Moreover the icons are signs of spirituality and devotions. In bright spacious halls of museum more than 300 first class works of Ukrainian icon-painters of 15th-19th centuries are presented from almost all regions from West to East of Ukraine and more than 100 iconographical images and themes. The museum has also the collection of the works of the world-known Ukrainian painter Maria Prymachenko. 50 of her best works of native art are presented at the museum. Kyiv Fortress Museum 24 A,Hospital'na Str. Kiev 10:00 - 17:00 exc Fri This part of the city's fortifications was built in 1844. Although the structure's history probably has more do with defenseless people. It was here that supporters of the tsar carried out executions of political prisoners, including the leaders of a Polish rebellion, in the 1860s. At the beginning of the 20th century, participants in a revolt of the Kyiv Pioneer Regiment met the same fate. Also during this time, ammunition and weapons were stored in this semi-underground fortress with brick and stone walls.

The complex combines the Museum building with the monument to Motherland (62 m gigantic titanium female figure with a sword and shield in her hands in the style of Soviet "Socialist Realism" symbolising the Victory over the nazi Germany); a gallery of sculpture compositions commemorating the heroes of the battlefields and the rear front, the Glory Fire Cup; the alley of the hero cities and the exhibition of the arms from the World War II times. The major exposition is located in 14 rooms and includes more than 12,000 exhibits.

Museum consists for 3 halls with witnesses and always alive traces of this horrible event. One hall is dedicated to the tragedy itself and first action against it. The whole atmosphere of the museum with movie fragments, photos from the place of the tragedy and musical accompaniment are created to convey the core problem to all people in the world - we shall do everything not to repeat this horror once again. Kiev 12:00 - 18:00 exc Mon Fascinating little museum near the bottom of Andriivs'kyi uzviz (descent) tells the rich history of this important street through the years. Special attention is paid to recreating the atmosphere of this thoroughfare during the turn of the 20th century

The collection amounts to 12,000 pieces of paintings, graphics, sculpture, applied arts dating from the times of Kiev Rus to the present day. The Museum is famous for its considerable collection of works by D.Levitsky, V.Borovykovsky, V.Tropinin, O.Kiprensky, I.Aivazovsky, L.Perov, M.Ghe, V.Vereshchagin, I.Repin, I.Kramskoi, M.Vrubel, M.Nesterov, E.Lanceret, M.Antokolsky, V.Polenov, I,Shishkin, O.Deineka, V.Mukhina, S.Konenkov, Yu.Pimenov. Such world-known masterpieces as the icon "Saints Borys and Hlib" (12th c.); "Players" by P.Fedotov; "The Merchant Women" (1912) by B.Kustodiev; "Nicholas" (1914) by M.Rerikh etc. are displayed. St. Cyril Church It is an architectural monument of the 12th c. It was used as a family burial site for Princess Olga's descendants. The visitors can see the tomb of Prince Svyatoslav Vsevolodovych, one of the characters of the ancient Slavic literary masterpiece "The Sayings of Prince Igor". The walls were covered with frescoes out of which 800 sq. m have survived. In the 17th and 18th cc. the church was rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style. The paintings by famous Russian painter M.Vrubel and other unique objects have also been preserved. Mainly it operates as a museum. Services are held on major religious holidays. It was here that he wrote the novel The White Guard and the play Days of Turbins. The old Bulgakov family house is the Bulgakov Museum, which displays the author's personal things and family photos.
